Cherry Squares

This is another recipe passed on to me from my Aunt.
Very easy to make and a great desert to bring
to any Holiday gathering. These are best served
chilled and are stored in the refrigerator.

Dough for Crust

1 cup butter or margarine (softened)
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons Baking Powder
1 can Cherry Pie Filling

Topping

4 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
Mix well together, should end up with a dry crumb style mixture.

Dough
Mix all ingredients well in mixing bowl, dough will be heavy. Set aside
1/4 of this dough for your topping.
Spread the remaining dough into a Greased 13x9 baking pan.
Pour the cherry pie filling onto the dough & spread evenly over it.
Take the dough you set on the side & break up with your fingers
dropping randomly over the pie filling.
Take your Topping Mixture and sprinkle over batter.

Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes
let cool, cover & refrigerate. Slice into squares & serve.

Enjoy!
