And Create Signature Boxes.
Learn how to use all those sigtags you created or collected
from email groups you belong to in your email using Outlook Express.
First collect in a folder some of the tags you want to use, Name the
folder sigtags
Right click on the folder & click Copy.
On your computer go to:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\
In this folder right click on an empty space & click Paste.
You should see your Sigtag Folder here now.
Open your sigtag folder & bring it down to your taskbar till needed.
On your desktop, Right click & open a New Text Document.
Copy & paste the code below into the notepad you have open.
It should look like this:
Now you need to change some things before you save it.
Bring up your sigtag folder & pick a tag you want to use.
Right click on it & click on Properties & Copy it's name
Also check to see if it JPG or GIF in your folder.
In the code you'll see the address to your sigtag folder.
Your going to change ASSEMBLY - DA - HELLO.gif
to the name of the tag your using.
You also need to change the width & height in
the code to the width & height of your tag.
Now I added a quote to my tag. You can add your own Quote
or link to your site, contact info, whatever you want.
If you got your sigtag from a website you should
really add a credit here & link to that site.
This is all basic HTML, just like making a web page.
Lastly change the title name to something that you will easily
recognize in OE when choosing your siggy.
And change the email address in the code to your own.
Now in your Notepad go to File - Save As
Save in - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\stationery\
The sample below will show you how & where to save it.
Save as - TitleName.html
Open up Outlook Express
Following the sample below, Under Edit Signature, click on File
& then browse, Choose the html file you just made.
In the Settings section Click on New & name your new signature.
Press Apply & Okay.
Start a New Letter.
Type some text to test this out. Go to insert - Signature - choose the one
you just made.
Hopefully you will see your new signature.
On the above picture you will see the task bar saying Edit/Source/Preview
If you don't see this bar go to View - Source Edit
If you want to change anything in your signature, click on source.
You will see all your html you added. This is where you can edit your
siggy.
When done editing, click on edit & view your results.
Send a test letter to yourself & see if everything works right.
If you want to add music or a background to your letter, First save your
midi
files & backgrounds in your stationery folder, Click on Format -
Background
And add the music or background that you want.
If you dont see your images in the letter you sent yourself or you
get complaints from others, Check the address of your tags in your
code & make sure they're correct, Also in OE click on
Tools - Options - Security - Uncheck the box next to Block Images
under Download Images.
Signature Box
Another way of displaying your tag is in a sigbox, which is really just a
table.
Sig boxes allow you to add tags, comments, contact info, links, blinkies,
in a more organized display.
The code below will create the box in the sample above.
Just follow the exact same directions to making a basic signature
from above. You will have more to edit in this though.
I saved all my graphics in my sigtag folder as you will be
able to tell in the address of each picture.
In this code remember to change your background color,
( this is the blue in the pic above )
Border color, font color, size, tag & any other images info.
email address, links & addresses,& title.
Again test this out by sending a letter to yourself using this signature
and see if everything works right.
**************
Remember this is all HTML, You can make any type of table you want.
Add more cells, marquee's, anything you want.
Also keep in mind the size, if you make a huge table full of images
& whatever else, it will look out of place in your letter.
Keep it simple.
Hope some find this tutorial helpful.
