Potpourri Pillows
These are perfect for any Holiday, for gifts for the teacher for Christmas, to place throughout the house to add color & scent, in dresser drawers, part of a gift basket, & many more uses.
Just use your imagination. Basket of Potpourri Pillows
![]() Materials Needed:
*A few yards of light weight material,at least one in a solid color that will match the pattern material your using. This does not have to be expensive, you can buy remnants or even use tablecloths that you don't use any more.
*A few bags of Potpourri
*Matching ribbon or raffia
(one bag will do many projects)
*coordinating thread or no sew double sided tape.
*glue gun or tacky glue
*Accents for top - cinnamon sticks, holiday picks, dried or small silk floral picks.
For each pillow you will need to cut 2 -7'in by 7'in squares. or whatever size you prefer. Place them on top of each other so that their reverse sides are facing you on either side. after you sew the 3 sides your going to turn them over so the correct sides is outside.
Either on a sewing machine or by hand, sew up 3 sides, turn your material inside out now & fill with your potpourri. Don't over fill it otherwise it will be too bulky & hard to sew the opening closed. Plus remember your going to stack 2 or 3 together, so you don't want them too full.
Sew the remaining side now. Keep making them using different patterns of material so you have a variety.
*Another way is to cut the material using pinking sheers,
if you do this you don't have to turn over the material. just line them up & sew your seam at least a half inch from the edges.
*If you don't sew, there is no sew tape that you can buy at fabric shops. just follow the directions on the package.
Now you can start stacking them in piles of 2 or 3, using the color combination of your choice.
Take coordinating ribbon or raffia (take 1 heavy strand of raffia & just split it into thinner strands by pulling it apart)
tie your bundles together.Making a bow on top.
![]() Using a glue gun(this is the best way) or tacky glue,
attach some cinnamon sticks or holiday floral picks or what ever you prefer & glue on top of your bow or underneath it.
That's It!
Now get creative & put them in baskets around the house.
For a gift for a friend or neighbor or teacher, Take a nice basket, put some pillows in there plus some coordinating candles & maybe some cinnamon sticks wrapped in raffia
and you have a nice gift for someone. The scent will last for years!
Great for crafts shows too when you want something small to sell with your larger items.
Have fun! Donna
