Cinnamon Dough
(For Decoration Purpose Only)
With Cinnamon Dough you can create ornaments.
Basket fillers, decorations to add on other projects.
It will take a little bit of time & work but you will have cinnamon scented decorations that will last for years.
To make these you will need a table or place where they can air dry for a few days. Then you can paint or add accents & use in your creations.
Basket contain Cinnamon Hearts
![]() Materials Needed:
*Ground Cinnamon ( I usually buy large containers of a generic brand because I use so much of it for these.)
*Applesauce (Generic brand if possible)
*Variety of cookie cutters
*Wax paper or saran wrap
*Old cookie sheets or large flat movable surface that they can sit on for a few days to dry.
*Rolling pin
*Toothpicks
*paints, brushes
To Make Dough:
1 cup cinnamon
1 cup applesauce
Mix together well & put in a baggie or container & refrigerate for 6 hours at least.
To make decorations:
First line your cookie sheets or flat surface your using to dry them on with wax paper
Get your cookie cutters out & a rolling pin, or you can just press down with your hand.
Cover your working area with wax paper or saran wrap (I prefer wax paper) Take a handful of dough & place on wax paper, Get another piece of wax paper & place on top of dough. Roll the dough to the thickness you desire.
Remember if it's too thin it will crack & if it's too heavy it will take longer to dry. I usually make 3 cutouts at a time.
Using a flat utensil move your cutout's to the drying pan.
When your done making your cutouts & you want to use them as ornaments take your toothpicks & place in the middle on the top not to close to the edge. These will stay in for the first day or so.
Move your pan to a warm dry place, Let dry for 24 hours.
Turn over (replace toothpicks in ornaments) & let dry 24 hours again.
They are not considered dry UNTIL there are no more wet spots! You'll easily notice this.
This could take up to a week.
![]() When they are dry, you can paint designs on them, Add thin ribbon for hangers if they are to be used as ornaments,
Glue on any small decorations with a glue gun or tacky glue.
***They can be kept in a tightly sealed baggie until your ready to work on them as long as they are totally dry.
This way you can paint them at your leisure.
***If your dough is sticking to your hands or the wax paper
Dust the top of the dough & then place a piece of wax paper over it & continue rolling it or dust your hands with cinnamon & flatten your dough.
Also you can pour a little cinnamon in a bowl & dip your cookie cutter in it before cutting your dough.
This is just like making regular cookies.
***These are NOT EDIBLE!!!!
USES:
*Fill a basket with them for a scented decoration
*Make Ornaments for Christmas
*Make a wall hanging - use different lengths of decorative ribbon, attach thru the hole & gather the ends together.
*Tie together and make or add a nice bow.
*Hang from a wall plaque.
*Put a few in a small light colored basket (no handle) & wrap with tulle (netting material), Tie edges with a pretty ribbon.
perfect for a Valentines or other holiday gift for your children's teachers.
*Same as above but use a Holiday Mug.
*If you make Silk Floral centerpieces, They can be glued on in various places with a Hot Glue Gun.
